What Our Customers Have to Say
Frequently Asked Questions
What are humidifier filters?
Humidifier filters are also known as water panels, evaporators or water pads. Humidifier filters are used in a humidifier to help alleviate dry air mostly in the winter time. A humidifier works when warm, unfiltered air is blown across a humidifier filter, which is saturated with water. As the air passes over the filter, it picks up moisture and distributes the humid air into the room or through the HVAC system.
Where does a whole house humidifier install?
A whole house humidifier connects directly to your home's forced air furnace. The benefit of a whole house humidifier is a single piece of equipment supplying supplemental humidity to the entire house (rather than multiple units in different rooms).
Why should I replace my humidifier filter?
Your humidifier filter (AKA pad, wick) is meant to absorb and hold water. Eventually, the filter will become clogged with scale and minerals - losing it's absorbency. In the winter months when the humidifier is used often, replace your filter at least once every 6 months.
Why do I need a humidifier?
If you live in a dry region of the country, or an area with seasonal dryness - it's important to maintain the proper level of humidity in your home - 40-60% relative humidity. Dry air can cause issues like cracked, itchy skin and other health problems. Additionally - materials like wood flooring and furniture are susceptible to cracking and warping under excessively dry conditions. A home with the correct level of humidity will be more comfortable for you and your family.
What is a Water Panel?
A "water panel" is really the same humidifier part as a "humidifier water pad" or "humidifier filter" - used in a whole house humidifier. Traditionally, the water panel is a metal mesh pad dipped in a liquid clay slurry. The clay coating absorbs and holds water for distribution into the air. Other whole house pads are made of highly absorbent paper with aluminum reinforcement. Metal and paper pads work the same way - but paper pads should be replaced twice as often as metal pads.
What is the optimal level of humidity in a home?
It's best to keep the relative humidity in your home at approximately 35-40%. In order to achieve this - you may need to supplement your homes humidity by deploying portable humidifiers or a whole house humidifier in the dry, winter months. If humidity is high in your area during the hot, summer months - the air conditioning system should remove the excess humidity. Sometimes a supplemental dehumidifier will be needed to manage humidity not addressed by air conditioning.
Does my portable humidifier have a filter?
Your portable, room humidifier may or may not have a filter to replace. Traditionally, room humidifiers will use a paper "wick" (also called a filter) that absorbs water for distribution into the air via a fan. Many new room humidifiers create a mist by using ultrasonic vibration to break water into small particles and disperse them into the air. These types of humidifiers (sometimes called "cool mist") do not require a filter.
